The main producers of cacao in the world are the Ivory Coast, Ghana, Indonesia, Brazil, and Ecuador, which together account for over 70% of global cacao production. Other notable producers include Mexico, Peru, and Nigeria.

These countries have the following typical harvest periods:

  • Ivory Coast: October to March

  • Ghana: October to December

  • Indonesia: April to November

  • Brazil: May to September

  • Ecuador: June to December

  • Mexico: April to November

  • Peru: June to November

  • Nigeria: October to January

In terms of production share, the Ivory Coast is the largest producer, accounting for over 30% of global production, followed by Ghana at around 20%, Indonesia at 8%, Brazil at 7%, and Ecuador at 6%.
